Stopped in because it was on the way from Baltimore to Chicago the best barbecue place I’ve been to - unbelievable atmosphere. The firehouse actually has a history to it and unfortunately we’re here for lunch so I’m not listening to any blues but if you’re nearby, the food is fabulous. We had half a rack of ribs and brisket and there’s so much left over and the sides were good as well. I can’t rate this any higher because there’s no higher rating… AWESOME

One of my first visits to this diner was a memorable one. I was there on a Friday evening, and the live blues playing in the background instantly lifted the mood. The menu offers a variety of smoked specialties, from tender ribs that practically fall off the bone to juicy pulled pork sandwiches stacked high with house-made slaw. I tried the brisket that day, which had been smoked for over 12 hours-experiencing a rich, smoky flavor balanced perfectly with a tangy barbecue sauce. Research into traditional barbecue methods shows that slow smoking over indirect heat not only enhances taste but also preserves the meat’s tenderness, and Firehouse Bbq And Blues demonstrates this technique flawlessly.
The restaurant also caters to those who want something beyond the classic meats. Their sides, including baked beans, creamy mac and cheese, and freshly prepared coleslaw, are made from scratch daily, giving a homemade touch that stands out from typical diner fare. During a visit last month, I watched the staff carefully plate each dish, highlighting their attention to detail and commitment to quality. This hands-on approach reflects what culinary experts emphasize: the combination of technique and care directly affects both flavor and customer satisfaction.
Customer reviews consistently praise both the food and the ambiance. Locals often highlight the friendly staff, who share their own recommendations based on what’s freshest that day, demonstrating real expertise in the menu. Even TripAdvisor and Yelp ratings confirm that Firehouse Bbq And Blues has carved a solid reputation, making it a trusted destination for both first-timers and regulars.
One of the aspects that sets this diner apart is its balance of comfort and authenticity. Many restaurants offer barbecue, but few capture the soulful connection between great food and music. The blues playlist isn’t just background noise-it’s part of the dining experience, creating an environment where friends can gather, families can celebrate, and newcomers can instantly feel at home. This combination aligns with studies in hospitality management that show ambiance significantly enhances perceived meal quality and customer loyalty.
Firehouse Bbq And Blues also demonstrates transparency in its sourcing. Ingredients are locally obtained whenever possible, ensuring fresh produce and high-quality meats. This commitment to sourcing aligns with best practices recommended by the National Restaurant Association, emphasizing sustainability and support for local economies. Additionally, the staff are knowledgeable about dietary options and are happy to adjust meals for preferences, showing a level of trustworthiness that encourages repeat visits.
Visiting this Richmond hotspot has been consistently rewarding. From the expertly smoked meats and carefully crafted sides to the vibrant atmosphere and attentive staff, it offers a dining experience that feels both casual and thoughtfully curated. Whether you’re in the area for a quick bite or a leisurely evening out, the combination of taste, music, and hospitality makes Firehouse Bbq And Blues a must-visit destination.

Stopped by on a Friday night (earlier in the evening) with my girlfriend. We were met by the hostess and could immediately hear live music in the background. The hostess (who was very entertaining herself, in a good way) asked if we wanted to watch the band or go somewhere a little more quiet. We elected to go somewhere quiet. The hostess took us two rooms over where it was dead quiet even with several other couples dining. Our waitress was prompt and great getting us taken care of. I only got the one picture of the food brought to our table (mine). All of the food that we had was delicious! I’ll definitely be back. The whole area around this restaurant is nice with several bars, another restaurant or two, an ice cream joint, and a vintage video game store/arcade. Go support this area! It’s a hidden gem!
We had such an enjoyable experience here. From the moment you walk in Santini greets you with a smile and her “hoot” of a personality. My mom and I chose to sit at the bar, though wherever you sit is great because all of the serving staff is knowledgeable and friendly, but Becca at the Bar she knows her stuff and she’s no nonsense. We had such a delightful time talking and laughing and sharing stories and then the food came and you get real quiet because your mouth is so full of the melt off the bone meat they put in front of you. We did the sampler platter, which lets you experience all their different meats, sauces are tasty and separate so you control how much or how little and you can order a couple of rolls if you want to make a sandwich. This platter could feed 2 to 4 people depending on who’s in your group. The bartender can get crafty with your drinks if you’re willing to trust your bartender. All around, from beginning to end a great experience. Great fun and fantastic food…and spirits. Oh and get the peanut butter pie.
Firehouse BBQ & Blues – Richmond, Indiana We just left Firehouse BBQ & Blues in Richmond, Indiana, and let me tell you… this place did not disappoint! Pulled Pork Sandwich – Miranda said it was one of the best she’s ever had in her life. Tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. A must-try! Smoked Sausage Stuffed with Pulled Pork & Onions – I had this and wow… absolutely delicious. The combo of smoked meats and sweet onions was . Sides Rundown: • Baked Beans – Phenomenal. Bold, sweet, and savory—probably some of the best we’ve had. • Mac & Cheese – Just okay. Not bad, but not a standout. • Coleslaw – Also so-so. Decent crunch, but didn’t wow us. The vibe? Cozy, laid-back, and full of local charm with a touch of bluesy soul. Oh and a shout out to Mo our ever attentive and knowledgeable waitress. She’s the best! If you’re ever passing through Richmond, do yourself a favor and stop by Firehouse BBQ & Blues. Bring your appetite—you’ll leave full and happy.
Amazing food, service and atmosphere! Gluten free options and huge portions for a great price. Can’t wait to return. If you’re in the area you should check this out!
Had a brisket quesadilla. I felt like it was a bit too greasy and water for my hot tea wasn't hot enough. All in all though, it wasn't bad though.
Brisket was good, spare ribs were over cooked unfortunately.. good prices and still really glad we stopped in to this historic town to have BBQ.
Best ever fantastic staff it would be worth going back to Indiana just for this! The girls working the night we were the outwear, outstanding fantastic employees
